We want our kids to be leaders and not followers. But what makes a leader? What if I told you – mistakes! But only a special kind of mistake. All life is about solving problems. A good leader is a good problem solver. But you don’t get to be a good problem solver without making mistakes along the way. So what kind of special mistake builds someone into a problem-solving leader? The mistake you learn from and don’t make again and again!
Here’s how we help kids learn from mistakes: 1. Admit the mistake. Einstein wasn’t ashamed to admit he made mistakes. Why should we? 2. Talk about the flaw in thinking or action that led to the mistake. 3. Encourage them to try again. 4. Praise their effort. Kids who are praised for effort, work harder!
